          CLUB PROJECTS 2007 - 2008


     Rotary International Theme 2007-8 


Club Service

(1)   Concerted effort utilising existing lists and new contacts via local business clubs
       to increase Club membership by 4 no new members

(2)   Develop contacts with local press and media to increase the exposure of Club
       activities, and promote the Club in the wider community. Investigate the
       introduction of a Rotary News page in Matlock Mercury on a bi weekly or
       monthly basis    

(3)   Monitor attendance levels, and encourage members to participate in Club
       meetings by making the same interesting and topical, coupled with good social
       programme.

(4)   Find a new Web Master to relieve present encumbent.

(5)   Maintain variety in Club social programme to ensure that there is something
       for everyone.

Community & Vocational

(1)   Continue support for “Hearing dogs for the deaf” and for those with
      
disabilities, Citizens Advice Bureau and the Organ Donor Campaign.

(2)   Investigate if tickets will be available for Buxton pantomime, and if so,
      
arrange for attendance by disadvantaged children.

(3)   Support Youth Football Tournament at Cavendish Playing Fields.

(4)   Continue to drive the establishment of a Youth Chorale for the County.

(5)   Continue to support local Community Groups and individuals, encourage
      
greater liaison with Highfields School, and the proposed Youth Exchange
      
with the Silves Club

(6)   Support the RYLA weekends by identifying suitable candidates

 

International

(1)   Continue to support Aquabox

(2)   Continue with the collection of second hand tools for the Self Reliance
       project

(3)   Continue to develop the links with our twinned Club (RC Silves, District
       1960), with a visit to Portugal this year, and promote the proposed
       scholar exchange with Highfields School.

(4)   Support the project to build a clinic in the Gambia, spearheaded by Mr
       and Mrs Henson, a local couple.

(5)   Continue with the international toasts to newly formed Clubs worldwide.

(6)   Support two new overseas charities, with particular emphasis on self help
      
by the recipients. Possible candidates would be Mercy Ships, MAG Mine
       Clearance, Water Aid, and the Maryland Adult Literacy Scheme, Cape
       Town, South Africa. 

Fund Raising

(1)  Maintain existing major fund raising events viz.  Dovedale Dipper to benefit
      Multiple Sclerosis Association on 5th August.  Charity Golf Day to benefit
      Crossroads on 12th September. Mulled wine stall at Victorian Market in early
      December. Chatsworth Gala Dinner to benefit SSAFA on 7th March 2008.

(2)  Build on existing wishing wells at 5 locations with additional wells targeted at
      the new Sainsbury’s development and Forest Nurseries. Monitor take from Peak
      Village Well.

(3)  Investigate additional event in May 2008 with possibilities of Mountain Bike
      challenge and/ or Duck race.

 Rotary Foundation

(1)  Aim to ensure that the Club is well represented at the District Foundation
      seminar, Autumn 2007, and the Link Evening in Spring 2008.

(2)  Provide assistance in respect of the GSE team visit from Queensland,
      Australia in Autumn 2007.

(3)  Seek to raise understanding within the Club of the work of Rotary Centres
      for International Studies in peace and conflict resolution.

(4)  Invite a representative of District Foundation Committee to update the Club
      on Foundation objectives.
